Three Steps To Take Before Selling Your Home

Posted on: 11 October 2017

The decision to sell your house is a huge step. You may wish to sell because you're upgrading or downsizing. Maybe you're moving to a new town or state and no longer need your residence. In any event, you need to prepare the real estate so it will attract potential buyers. This means the entire property needs to be looking its best – inside and out. This guide will walk you through a few steps you can take to enhance the buying appeal of your home.

Landscaping

The first thing that people will see is the exterior of the property and the yard. First impressions go a long way. In order to prepare the outside of your home, complete the following steps:

  • Repair any downspouts and loose gutters.

  • Trim the trees, shrubs, and bushes on the property. Mow the lawn if applicable.

  • Add a bit of flair to the yard if needed. Pots of annual flowers look great sitting around the yard.

  • Sweep the driveways and sidewalks around the property.

  • Remove any stains or weeds that may be taking over your driveway or sidewalks.

Remove Clutter

Once you are finished with the exterior of the property, you need to start on the inside. One of the biggest steps is removing clutter. Over the course of living in a home, one doesn't really realize just how much clutter slowly accumulates. It's time to go through this clutter and get rid of everything that you don't need. You can even start packing up your knick-knacks and other items and store them away temporarily until you move to your new place. This will greatly decrease the amount of items in the home and be easier to move once it's time. If you don't want the items, you can donate them or try to sell them. A moving sale is a great way to get rid of items and make some money towards the move.

Deep Clean

Deep clean the entire property. If this is overwhelming, consider hiring a professional cleaning service. Once they are finished, they can return each week and perform cleaning services until you move. It will be the easiest way to make sure your home is always picture perfect and ready for potential buyers to view the home. If you can't afford a cleaning service, make out a schedule to deep clean one room each week and minimal maintenance on the rest of the rooms on the other days.
